After 8 years of leadership of the Australian Journal of Rural Health (AJRH) editorial team, current Editor in Chief, Professor David Perkins will complete his term at the end of 2016. David’s immense good will and generous contribution to the Journal is highly valued by the Alliance. We particularly appreciate David’s professional leadership of the editorial team as well as the thoughtful insights and perspectives he always offered to benefit rural and remote health in Australia. David will remain active in the rural health sector through his continuing work as Director, Centre for Rural and Remote Mental Health within the University of Newcastle at Orange, NSW. The Alliance acknowledges with gratitude David’s valuable contribution and wishes him every success for the future.
Professor Russell Roberts will take up the position of Editor in Chief in January 2017. Russell is an Associate Professor at Charles Sturt University in Bathurst, NSW. He is the Chair of the National Alliance for Rural and Remote Mental Health. He has served as Director of Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol Services for Western NSW and has also served on the NSW Mental Health Commission Advisory Council. Previously he has worked as Director of Clinical Training at Griffith University, QLD, Head of School Health at Flinders University and as a Clinical Psychologist in rural South Australia. He holds Master degrees in Public Administration and Clinical Psychology and a PhD in research. His current research interests are in rural models of health service delivery and primary mental health care.
He has also led the development of a number of innovative, award winning service delivery initiatives such as the Mental Health Emergency Care Rural Access Program, the Mental Health Rural Outreach Service, Murdi Paaki Drug and Alcohol Project and the Aboriginal Workforce Development Program.
We welcome Russell as Editor in Chief and look forward to productive and stimulating relationship in a time of change and innovation in rural and remote health.
