Living longer, living better.
Living longer, living better.

The Alliance has made a submission to the Senate Community Affairs Committee Inquiry into the Aged Care Reform Bills 2013, and also presented to the Public Hearing. These Bills are to give effect to the Living Longer Living Better aged care reforms.

One focus of these reforms is to provide increased choice and more integrated support for older Australians who want to live in their own homes as long as they can. A higher proportion of older people outside the cities receive care in the community rather than residential care at present. The overall use of aged care packages by the eligible population is less than in urban areas.

The Alliance submission focused on the impact of the legislation on two particular challenges to healthy ageing and aged care in rural areas: higher costs of establishing and delivering services; and the availability of staff as they apply to both home and residential care.
