Medical building

The Alliance has written to the Treasurer about what we see as the key issues for the 2016-17 Budget.  Ensuring growth in the health workforce in rural and remote Australia is our top priority, building on the initiatives that the Government announced in the Mid Year Economic and Fiscal Outlook in December.  We have also flagged concerns about the aged care sector – in particular about the increasing frailty of aged care residents and the reducing access to skilled nursing care in aged care facilities.

We have also encouraged the government to look towards investment in improved primary health care and prevention as the most significant way in which it can work to ease future growth in the health budget.  The Alliance is looking forward to the report of the Primary Health Care Advisory Group and other reviews due to report shortly and urges the government to hold off any further change to the health budget until the range of recommendations can be considered comprehensively.
