Prevalence of different types of speech, language and communication disorders and speech pathology services in Australia - Submission to the Senate Community Affairs Committee Inquiry

28 February 2014
The NRHA welcomed this inquiry into the different types of speech, language and communication disorders and the assistance and support that speech pathology services could provide. Awareness of speech pathology services, and the situations in which they can assist, is quite low outside the major cities. This lack of awareness, coupled with poor availability of speech pathology services, contributes to under-diagnosis and to underestimates of the prevalence of speech, language and communication disorders. The result is less than optimal treatment of many of these disorders for people in rural and remote areas.
